My name is Katie, I'm 23 years old, living in Australia and two months ago was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries syndrome, gall stones and possible caeliac.

A month ago I had my gall bladder out through laproscopic surgery and have been sick ever since (infections, flu, cold, asthma, bowl problems - you name it, I've had it!).

Two weeks ago I saw an allerginist (Dr Barry Ryan) who tested me for everything under the sun - and everything came back with an intollerence! We looked at only the severe reactions and I am cutting those things out of my diet - problem is, I've lost some of the most staple parts of a nutritious diet; potato, rice, all meat, all diary, salysilates, amines, nuts, soy, wheat, grains, gluten, yeast, sugars....

I'm left with:
- celery
- lettuce
- brussel sprouts
- artichoke
- sweet pea
- beetroot
- pumpkin
- carrot
- broccoli

My naturopath has put me on a protein shake to try and keep me healthy and a heap of vitamins and suppliments. But people keep telling me that the list above is not enough food to live on... I am sick of people telling me what to do!! My mum went through Dr Ryan in 1996, he helped her (although it was tough!) and I trust him, but people keep contradicting what he says!!

I'm trying to finish my last 3mths of Uni (I'm studying to be a teacher, and am in a primary classroom full time for the rest of the year come September) - I don't have time to be sick, but I don't have a career without my health!!

I guess I've contacted the Allergic Living site because I'm hoping there's others out there with the same problems as me, someone who can reassure me... make me feel like what I'm going through is normal-ish!

I feel very alone right now, and while my family is very supportive, they keep telling me to stop crying it's not that bad, or to "try abit harder" and while I know they mean well, it's not helping!!

Phew - okay, that's my story (well, once you include the fact I'm going for a colonoscopy on Thursday, just been told I have endymetriosis again and that I'll need surgery for that later in the year...!). On the plus side, I've lost 26kg in the 2mths since first diagnosed!!

Looking forward to hearing from someone... anyone!!

That's a lot to have to give up! Let's hope that your body is in a highly reactive state and that once it calms down, you'll be able to introduce some of the foods.

Of course your crying! You've had to give up a lot. Your health has been bad for sometime and this is an extreme diet that you've been placed on. All at a time that is overwhelming in itself. School ending, job hunting in the future.

You seem to know they mean well and you have faith in your Dr.

Glad you found us! :)
