Talking Allergies

Does anyone have a recommendation for a cook book that offers up recipes for kids free of dairy/eggs/soy?
My daughter can have wheat and it seems that most cookbooks have many wheat free cookbooks, which is not helpful to me.

We LOVE this one http://www.foodallergycookbook.com/ which is egg/milk/peanut free. The only soy I can recall is milk substitute or margarine...which you could substitute out. There is a great birthday cake recipe in here and lots of good cookies.

You can substitute rice milk for milk...1 tbsp oil / 1 tbsp water / 1 tsp baking powder for an egg...and coconut oil or spectrum shortening for margarine.

I would suggest that you check out your local library first. Cookbooks can get expensive and you may only use a few recipes. Once you find some substitutes for the basic ingredients, you will find that you can convert just about any recipe.

Having said that, I really like the Food Allergy News Cookbook put out by FAAN.

I asked for cookbooks for Christmas one year and got several.

You can also use a search engine to find recipes on the internet and create your own cookbook. This forum has some great recipes, FAAN has a birthday cake recipe and a new recipe monthly. Allergic Living magazine puts recipes in each edition of its' magazine.

I try to instill a love of cooking in my daughter as it may be a tool she will need. I find it great for teaching basic math and science concepts (fractions, adding, sequencing, reaction, catalysts, acids and bases, following an experiment, expected outcomes as well as teaching patience.)
It also appeals to her crafty side and empowers her. She is now (5 1/2) inventing her own recipes from scratch and they actually turn out (good sense of proportions ei. flour to leavening agent).

Hi, just wanted to let everyone know that there's a new cookbook out called "Finally Food I Can Eat", written by Shirley Plant - I saw her interviewed on Ottawa's CJOH TV a week or so ago. Food looked great - book caters to those avoiding wheat, dairy, eggs, corn, gluten, and sugar BUT doesn't seem to avoid nuts!

I do alot of googling for recipes and just substituting when necessary. However, I do have 2 cookbooks that have seen alot of use.

The AAIA's Allergen Free Cooking and Kid Pleasing Egg-free, Dairy-free Recipes & Tips (I ordered this one online).
