We have been through heck in the past few months with my son.

To make a long story short, he was reacting to a TON of processed foods.

Since his blood test for milk was NEGATIVE (and ZERO!) in Sept 2009 (after previously being a 3, and he was ana to small amts) we didn't even questions that it could be dairy again.

He ate dairy from Sept 2009-Jan 2010 without 1 single reaction. In Jan 2010 he had a rx to processed butter sauce on frozen veggies (it was not at our home).
Month later to a processed cheese string (I usually buy 100% cheese)

And a few others up until August.

Allergist suspected a preservative allergy. All heck broke loose in August when he reacted violently to Frosted flakes. We suspected BHT (preservative)- I mean, seriously, any 'real food' he eats he is fine (corn, wheat, etc).

Since his reactions were daily and progressing, out of desparation, the allergist tested him for wheat, egg, milk, soy, yeast a few weeks ago.

All negative. Including milk. Except. The milk looked blotchy, while the others were just plain. He immediately said "This is very interesting...He probably has a milk sensitivity. Take milk away and we'll see how he does" (appt at Children's in Feb 2011).

SO I took milk away. And he's doing awesome!

Im confused though. All this whole time I never did suspect milk or dairy, as he would eat pizza, cheese, yogurt and be completely non reactive. But then other days, or times, or different brands, he'd be reactive. But we kept thinking it was the additives ..

And my question, doesn't an allergy gives you hives? He's saying sensitivity. He was getting hives at times. Rashes at other times, dots, pimples around the mouth, burn like reaction on skin (would fade 15 mins).

I thought sensitivity was the runs, upset stomach..etc.

The frosted flakes had milk on them.

Thank you!

4yo ds: Finally!! Milk and Latex allergy. Preservative sensitivity. Asthma. Hay fever.
6yo ds: Hay fever, ADHD, asthma, penicillin, azithromycin, cephalosporin.
