At what age can a child begin allergy shots? Anyone know?

Five is the youngest recommended age, according to the AAAAI - more information at this link: http://www.aaaai.org/patients/publicedm ... yshots.stm

My daughters (ages 6 and 9) both get allergy shots - one started at age 5 and one at age 6. My doctor recommended EMLA numbing cream for my younger one, since she was pretty freaked out by needles when she started. Unfortunately for her, she has to get a shot every single week for 3 to 5 years for her dust mite allergies. My older daughter only receives 8 shots all year for spring pollen allergies. The younger one has good weeks and bad weeks when it comes to being comfortable with the shots, but the goal behind them - preventing her reactive airways from developing into full-blown asthma - is something we all try to stay focused on.
