Having major issues with shellfish allergies in the house. Does anyone know of either a home test or a allergist in Ottawa that we can go to?

Cheers.

i'll tell you this much do not go see Dr. Algom he's an allergist everyone i know who has seen him has not be heen happy with their results, and go for a second opinion. i also know that the other allergists in ottawa have huge wait times tho :(

i'm sure if you go to a walk-in clinic you could get a refferal what part of ottawa are you in? cause the walk-in in stittsville upstairs at brown's independent grocer is really good and i never have to wait overly long to see a doc there when my doc is away..

I've closed moved this thread up to the Fish/Shellfish allergies category. Karen, our moderator, isn't available this week, but I'm sure she'll have some suggestions when she returns. Karen leads OASG, the anaphylaxis support group in the Ottawa area.

Home test? Good heavens, no! Please don't play around with this allergy.

What are your symptoms?

Seafood, eggs, tree nuts, sulfites

also, i just remembered if you're looking for a refferal from a doctor to see an allergist (cause that's how it usally works) most of the apple tree medical centres do accept walk-in, i've had some have some issues with one of the male doctors downtown location (i can't remember if it's on albert or slater street) so just be aware of that if you're close to there... i have a serious white coat phobia tho so i might be a little bias when givng opinions of doctors

Just to let everyone know, I definitely would consult an allergist for this situation, and I've PM'd Jool.z with a suggestion or two. :)

Joolz - I have tried to PM you and email you and the message bounced back saying

"Message successfully relayed to a system that does not support receipts :"

Can you PM me with an email address that works? Assuming you get this message...! You might not if your email isn't working properly... Sigh.

Karen
