OMG....this article about Dr. Randolph is new to me and I'm sure that you all will be shocked...yes, corn CAN cause psychotic/mental behaviour!

"This time, he injected a solution of corn into the stomach tube. Within minutes, the woman began striking at him viciously, threw herself off the bed, and struggled with the nurse and attendants as she tried to force her way out of the room. She shouted and argued and could not be reasoned with. In short, she displayed psychotic behavior. This anger and loss of control continued for four days, then ended as quickly as it began."

Another article from what appears to be the early 1950's. Why aren't there any current articles???? I guess the researchers/scientists want to keep their jobs.

Corn is such a bizarre substance. Add processing and it gets way more whacky. I'm surprised that people aren't more aware of corn allergies and (legitimate) sensitivities.

But really, if people went back to whole foods and labelling items with true ingredients (fructose from *source*, spices liked as all of the ingredients, etc.) it would make these non-priority allergens much easier to deal with.

Another article:

"Allergic reactions, including dermatitis, have been described with the Maize by-products Corn syrup, Corn dextrimaltose, Corn invert sugar, Corn isomerised dextrose and Corn D-psicose (46-48). Intravenous administration of a Maize-derived dextrose solution in a 23-year-old pregnant female patient at term gestation resulted in anaphylaxis. Symptoms included orofacial swelling, difficulty in breathing, hypotension, cardiac arrhythmia, voice hoarseness, total body warmth and flushing. These occurred within 8 minutes of initiation of a 5% dextrose Lactated Ringer's solution. Although the reaction elicited in this patient was unusual, clinicians should be aware of the possibility of Maize allergy due to the administration of IV fluids containing Maize-derived dextrose."
