Are You Armed Against Allergies?
On May 9, 2013 Canadian MedicAlert Foundation is setting up a free Allergy Protection Clinic at Dundas Square
The number of Canadians with allergies and asthma has increased
considerably in the last 20 years, now affecting nearly a third of the total population. Are you and your family properly protecting yourselves from allergies?
May is Food Allergy Awareness Month and also MedicAlert Month, which is why well-known charity Canadian MedicAlert Foundation, with the help of Anaphylaxis Canada, is hosting a free public awareness event to educate Canadians about allergy protection. Anyone who lives with allergies, knows someone living with allergies or would like to learn more about allergies is invited to attend the event for a chance to speak one-on-one with allergy experts.
When: Thursday, May 9, 2013 11:00am – 2:00pm
Where: Yonge/Dundas Square, Toronto, ON
“Food allergies have many psychological, social and economic implications for families,” says Dr. Tracy Pitt, Allergist and Immunologist. “As a major public health problem, it is important that families learn more about food allergies, other related atopic health conditions such as asthma and how to properly manage these conditions to promote overall good health,” says Dr. Pitt.
The MedicAlert Allergy Awareness Clinic will provide Canadians with the opportunity to have one-on-one consultations with allergy experts who can address their questions and discuss any number of allergy-related topics, including:

“With more than half of our members (nearly 600,000 Canadians) wearing a MedicAlert ID due to at least one allergy — helping to protect Canadians living with allergies is a main priority for our organization,” says Robert Ridge, President and CEO of registered charity Canadian MedicAlert Foundation. “We know our members have questions about their allergies — so in addition to being their voice in an emergency — we want to empower them to access credible information that can help them to manage their own health,” says Ridge.
“Food allergies are a growing public health concern in Canada affecting approximately 2.5 million Canadians based on self-report,” says Beatrice Povolo, Director of Marketing and Communications, Anaphylaxis Canada. “For Canadians living with allergies, understanding how to identify and manage potential risks is essential. An educational event like this provides a great opportunity to better educate the overall community,” says Povolo.
