I'm so excited! :happydance
The Ottawa Anaphylaxis Support Group (OASG) is holding our first non-food Halloween Party.

When: Friday October 30, 2009 18:30-21:00
Where: Immaculata High School 140 Main Street Ottawa
Who we are: We are a volunteer group dedicated to individuals or families affected by allergies and anaphylaxis-a life threatening allergic reaction. Our mandate is to share anaphylaxis-related information and promote allergy awareness in and around the greater Ottawa area.
Event goal: To maintain the children's psychological health by providing similar experiences to that of their peers, while ensuring safe environments so that they can just be kids and not have to be wary of potential dangers.
The challenge: Offer a food free event for a variety of children from toddler to 14 years old. To ensure that the children feel safe, welcomed and have fun!
Number of guests expected: we have 115 members and had known we'd easily get 50 guests. To date, our e-vite shows 49 members plan to attend (24 adults and 25 children) with another 98 members not having responded yet.
We plan to have games for the children such as the eyeball and spoon relay, the Make a Mummy (or Daddy) race and a scavenger hunt amongst other things. Winners of the events will receive a prize. We plan have other quieter activities for younger children such as parachute games and a craft area and dodge the ghoul and zombie tag for the older ones.
We hope to also have enough prizes to have the Great Pumpkin give each child a gift. The tradition of the Great Pumpkin is common among those with food allergies. They often are made to give up most of their Halloween candy with the promise of a gift from the Great Pumpkin in exchange.

I have to tell you thateven though the economy is not great right now, and even though we read al the backlash articles in the newspapaers and magazines, I have had fantastic experiences from those whom I approached for donations. :banana

Daughter: asthma, allergies to egg, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, most legumes (not soy and green beans) & penicillin. Developing hayfever type allergies.
Husband: no allergies
Me: Oral Allergy Syndrome, Allergic to Birch trees

We had a wonderful time last night, Susan did a superb job and from the the decorations bought (and especially painted by her very artistic daughter) to the games planned and the great craft table the entire evening was a great success. Not an easy undertaking with kids ranging in age from 2 to 14 but it all came together and it was really nice to see so many of the kids chatting and playing together. Our 1/3 of the three muskateers sends a special " HI" to the other 2/3 !! It was also nice to finally meet you and put a face to the 'text'. :D

Thank you Susan!!
