Code of Conduct for Registrants

1. Be Respectful
Allergic Living’s Talking Allergies forum is for discussion, exchange of ideas and debate. Sometimes differences of opinion will arise. When you disagree, do so with respect and thoughtfulness for the other person. Others can and will have opinions other than your own.

Be mindful of the fact that, unlike conversation, typed words can sometimes carry a negative tone that wasn’t intended. In a debate, we suggest re-reading your own words before you hit “Submit”. Watch also that you are not seeing slights in another’s words where a slight is not intended.

Clear rudeness will usually lead to a warning. After two warnings, the moderator may choose to suspend you. Extreme and sustained rudeness can lead to immediate suspension from the boards.

2. No Flaming
This is an extension of No. 1, but it bears saying that repeated posting to berate or insult another member of the community will not be allowed. We strive for a friendly, welcoming community.

3. No Unapproved Advertising
Members are allowed and encouraged to share information on useful products that they’ve discovered that may be helpful to this community. However, you may not post simply to promote a product, commercial event or company that you represent unless you have submitted a request to the moderator and the moderator and administrators approve that request. Without permission, such posts will be removed.

4. No Unapproved Surveys or Polling of Members
Surveys or polls will not be accepted without approval from the administrators. For permission, write to the moderator at .

5. Respect Copyrights
It’s great to share breaking allergy news stories. But it’s a breach of a news outlet’s copyright to simply cut and paste a whole article onto our site (unless it’s a PR release). What is considered acceptable is to cut the start of the story (perhaps the headline and the first paragraph) and then post the URL.

6. Private Messaging
This is intended as a convenience for members to communicate in a less public fashion. If you feel that someone is abusing this privilege in any way, let the moderator know and she will examine the situation. If you are found to be harassing someone by PM, the moderator may choose to warn you or suspend you.

7. Mind the Thread
Try to stay on topic. If someone has strayed off topic, politely suggest the thread the topic might go in. The moderator will decide whether it should be moved. The moderator may also remove highly redundant threads – try to avoid these.

8. Signature Graphics / Photos
Graphics or photos that help other understand what you’re talking about (such as pictures of cakes) are fine, but in the interests of not taking up server space, please try to limit your use.

9. Personal Info
Don’t post your own or that of others. Use private messaging if you and another forum member mutually agree to communicate such information.

10. Keep it Clean and Friendly
R-rated words and swearing aren’t allowed in our community. Partial masking (such as asterisks) is prohibited as well. Let us also state the obvious: posts that are abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, threatening, racially insulting or sexually-oriented absolutely will not be tolerated.

11. Spamming
We don’t want to encourage it. Replying to spam begets more spam. Just let the moderator remove it or ignore if it’s not abusive.

12. Trolling
This is the abusive practice of those who have no lives. They register with boards just to write posts that are insulting to the members of a forum community. Posts/posters of this nature will be banned. If you think someone is trolling, report it to the moderator.
