For those of you dealing with allergy to sesame and/or other seeds, what is your approach to eating other, "safe" seeds? For example, do you only eat the "safe" seeds if they're in the shell? Are there brands that you have found to be reliable in terms of cross-contamination? Any ideas are much appreciated.

We've done only in shell - we have had a lot of difficulty finding sunflower seeds out of shell and not from bulk. We're interested in Spitz salted no shell (nutritional information I believe is incorrect on the site - pumpkin instead of sunflower when clicking)

When I talked to Spitz a year or two ago they said Walmart was a carrier but we have never been able to actually find the seeds without shells...

Interestingly, someone stayed at our house and left a container
"Organically Yours" Raw Sunflower Seeds. I am not yet advocating the product as it requires my further outstanding investigation but the back of the packet says "may contain peanuts, treenuts, milk, soy and/or wheat". So MAYBE a sesame allergy could eat these or maybe the company just forgot or something...

It is packed by JOHNVINCE FOODS Toronto
but the slogan is BEST IN BULK....
Here are the details if you want to blitz the company:
Phone: 416-636-6146
Toll Free: 800-268-7950
Fax: 800-680-8288

(The package may have been purchased around Aug 4th 2012)

myself: seasonal allergies, chemical sensitivities
son 2007: allergic to sesame and raw eggs
daughter 2009: no allergies
daughter 2011: severe eczema, no allergies

We buy Enjoy Life seed mixes, which are free from the top 10 and a few other things. Otherwise, NoNuttin also sells shelled sunflower seeds and seed mixes that are safe for top 10 food allergies and latex.

anaphylaxis to tree nuts, peanuts, potato, wheat, sorghum; asthmatic, dairy intolerant, vegan
other family members allergic to to dairy, egg, peanut, peach, sesame, environmentals
