On March 10, 2011, students in classrooms and communities across Ontario will learn about healthy eating and local and global food systems. It's a day of apple education through loads of fun activities, ending with a synchronized apple crunch at 2:30pm.

I know it's supposed to promote healthy eating but I hate all food activities in schools.

Ugh! Yes, there was a student in dd's class JK thru Grade 2 with anaphylaxis allergies to apple.
I sent an e-mail to our school and the Principal hadn't heard of this event. I hope your daughters' school hasn't either.

She is in high school now so unlikely that they would participate. Few food activities at high school. Oddly, the highest number of food activities was middle school - they always seemed to be eating.

Thanks for the heads up on this one... my son is also allergic to apples. I also wish there weren't so many food related activities. I'll have to find out if our kids school is taking part in this and come up with an apple substitute... sheesh... it never ends.

I also hate food activities, esp when provided by the school. Can't they have a 'bring a healthy fruit or veggie from home for the 2:30 crunch'?

Who ever created this event was probably so proud of themselves for it being allergy friendly. :| What others never seem to realize is the realm of food allergies. WHY so many food events I will never ever understand.
It is like when I read a product label edible or non edible and it says 'non allergenic'. Um, non allergenic to the majority of the population but I'm sure not for everyone.

Some people can't eat any fresh fruits or vegetables :( Let's go for the non-food!

Walooet, it wouldn't have to be a fruit or veggie - just something from home so everyone has something safe. But I agree, food free would be SO MUCH BETTER. :(
