Thought I should give this a new topic for immediate attention.

This afternoon - Mon. May 16 - Bill 3, an Act to Protect Anaphylactic Pupils, passed third reading in the Ontario legislature. It just needs royal assent and it is law!

CBC's Canada Now is supposed to have a report on this at 6:30 ET. CTV national news tonight and, I think, CBC's The National are also supposed to be carrying reports.

The unanimous, all-party vote took place in front of a public gallery filled with parents and kids with food allergies. Sara Shannon and Mike Shannon, parents of Sabrina Shannon, the Pembroke-area teen who died after an anaphyactic attack in her high school, were there and witnessed passing of the bill that's been dubbed "Sabrina's Law".

Such is the emotion of the issue of anaphylaxis and the schools, that when the Speaker proclaimed that the bill had passed, some parents were moved to tears.

Dave Levac, the MPP who sponsored the bill, says the intent is to have Ontario school boards implementing standardized anaphylaxis plans by Jan. 1, 2006. Levac, the Shannons, Cindy Paskey of NASK and Laurie Harada of Anaphylaxis Canada were all elated by the vote result.

So a very good day for allergic students. :D Gwen
