Interesting study from Dr. Ruchi Gupta on the high costs of raising a child with food allergies.

It speaks about missed work opportunities in care of child. Has that been the case for anyone here?

It was certainly one of the reasons I decided not to go back to work. The time it takes to:
-research, order, shop for food at several different stores
-make/bake food from scratch that others routinely buy
-liaise with other parents about birthday party food
-call restaurants/other venues to ask about food
-communicate with teachers about what events are coming up and what food will be present, ensuring my kids have a comparable alternative
-ensuring school has proper plan and staff at school are trained and checking in each morning if there are substitute teachers in either classroom
-attend all field trips
-inquire about staff training for summer day camps and classes unless I am able to stay the whole time, which I sometimes end up doing
-research other allergy related products like lunchbox labels, epipen holders, ID bracelets (kids allergic to nickel)
-time spent at doctor appointments for diagnostic testing, epipen prescriptions, filling out forms needed for travel or school
-researching suitable accommodations for travel, grocery stores, safe brands, etc
-helping other parents with newly diagnosed children through allergy group
Hmmmm, what else? I don't know how other people find time to work!
