Good news, folks -

Canada's AllerGen research network received another 7 years of funding for its important research into environmental allergies/asthma (e.g. the huge CHILD population study) and food allergies (e.g. the SCALAAR prevalence study). Congrats to the hard-working researchers associated with AllerGen!

The network's recent advances include improving asthma diagnosis and predicting attacks, unravelling the genetic connections to allergies and asthma, and revealing the impact of socio-economic factors on the development of the immune system.

:banana This is fabulous! Research is a perilous grant by grant affair and a lot can be lost if grants don't come through.

We need this long term gathering of data so that we can shed some light on the questions.
Why the increase in the per capita rate of allergies?
Why are so many body systems affected?
Why are symptoms so varied, even in the same patient?
Why do some people out grow their allergies while others develop allergies later in life?
When should allergens be introduced
...and so much more!
