Bake sales are fun at any after-school activity or social fundraising event. I urge you to consider having an “allergy free” table, too, with desserts that are free of nuts and other allergens, such as gluten, etc.

I think this is in New York State...any thoughts on this? I would hope my kid would remember the NO EATING ANYTHING IF NOT FROM HOME rule and not talked into something stupid from a well meaning adult.

Myself - Seasonal, cats
dd-asthma (trigger - flu) anaphylactic to eggs, severe allergies to bugspray and penicilin, pulmicort
ds-Seasonal, cats and OAS
dh-allergy cats, bugspray and guava, outgrew egg allergy

What is allergy free???????? There are endless allergies. What is safe in my home isn't in yours, I bake with milk, you are allergic to milk, we avoid sesame , you eat sesame bagels. (don't mean you Alberta just in in general).
For allergic kids the rule of NO FOOD should be NO FOOD. How about a non-food table for allergic children as well as the kids who don't need more sugary treats.

Just today I was told that regardless what I was saying some foods truly are non allergenic. This person (their children have no allergies) told me that it wasn't possible to be allergic to rice. I said betcha with a few hours online I could find someone dealing with a rice allergy. I love it when people who don't have a clue have the most to say. :x

DD 12 yrs -no allergies
4 yr old DS - asthma/eczema Anaphylactic to Peanuts, all tree nuts, sesame , all pea/lentil legumes, gelatin.
Allergic to trees, grass, ragweed, feathers, dander, mold and dust.
Outgrew eggs, fish, shellfish

At a fundraiser (family event-not school) there was a bake sale table of homemade baked goods and a second table of allergy aware foods. All were individually wrapped and in the box (with the ingredients list). No money was made on these items as the price just covered the cost but, 'safe' snacks were available.

Daughter: asthma, allergies to egg, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, most legumes (not soy and green beans) & penicillin. Developing hayfever type allergies.
Husband: no allergies
Me: Oral Allergy Syndrome, Allergic to Birch trees

That's an excellet idea Susan, I would never trust random home baked goods, even if they were said to be 'safe' (unless I knew the person well).

But having SOMETHING safe for kids/people with allergies is wonderful.

DSs 12, 12, 14 all PA
