With many kids eating their lunches in school cafeterias--It's up to staff members to keep them safe. Esko High School Principal Greg Hexum said the first step is good communication, "Between families, the students, the staff who are working with those kids and to do as much proactive prevention as we can, to avoid having reactions," Hexum said.

"We see anything from peanut allergies to seafood, shellfish, fish, wheat, gluten," Nutrition Manager for Duluth Schools, Pam Bowe said between 3% and 5% of students in the district have a food allergy--the largest percentage she has seen in her 15 years working there.

Wow, nutrition mangers and school nurses!...things are sure different in different places.

dh-allergy cats, bugspray and guava, outgrew egg allergy

Way to go Duluth! We live near Minnesota and drove through Duluth for the first time recently. It is a pretty area right on Lake Superior.

me: allergic to crustaceans plus environmental
teenager: allergic to hazelnuts, some other foods and environmental
