Allergic Living just published the article "Your Hormones and Your Asthma" (Summer '06 issue). Now Maclean's weighs in with a related article/study: ... 61356_6520

I'm kind of attached to U of I thought I'd point out that Dr. Anna Day (an associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine at U of Toronto, and a respirologist at Women's College Hospital) has done some research in this area:

also see:

there was also an article in chatelaine's awhile back:

(you have to scroll down a little ways)
From the MacLean's article Gwen points out:
The study also showed that women who had been taking oral contraceptives, which suppress female hormones during menstruation, had a lower prevalence of current asthma.

Hmmm...I'm confused. I thought that I read somewhere...and I can't remember where... that one of the theories is that whichever hormone is at a low ebb during menstruation (can't remember whether it is estrogen or progestrogen) has an immunosuppressive effect (and this would explain why menopausal women are at greater risk for asthma)...but I could have this wrong (memory is a bit fuzzy on these points.)
