Oh dear--sounds like your family had a bad time of it.

I figured out the brand of deodorant recommended by the folks at the Big Carrot. . . it is called liken plant by earth science. I used it today (bought the unscented variety). . . and it is *hot* out there . . worked well for me.

Because I know some of you use Ecover household products (as I do) - wanted to post what I just came across on Ecover's website:
Are Ecover products suitable for people with nut allergy?

There are nut derivatives in the Multi-Surface Cleaner, Delicate Laundry Liquid, Laundry Liquid, Bio & Non Bio Powders and the Bio Laundry Tablets. There are also traces of Coconut shell in the Heavy Duty Hand Cleaner.

taken from:

I have an email out to them asking for clarification/specifics - I'll post when I get a reply.

OK -- big sigh of relief!
I got a phone call in response to my email. They obviously do not understand nut allergies -- she said that there are NOT any peanuts or tree nuts of any kind in their products -- that they use coconut oil as it's a great surfactant. I informed her that a coconut is not a tree nut and while you can have an allergy to coconut, it is from the palm family (something else I learned from posting here  ) and that she should definitely talk to whoever is responsible for their website because they could potentially turn away quite a bit of business (not to mention cause a number of heart attacks!!)

Thank goodness! Well we are awaiting testing for coconut allergy for my oldest...but the lack of actual nuts is good news. Thanks Ethansmom. I had e-mailed them about 2 hours ago.

Thanks for clarifying that! At least this mistake shows that they are trying to be conscientious about providing info. to the allergic consumer . . .

If anyone is interested in an entire line of household/personal care/make-up/disinfectants etc let me know and I will "pm" you my information - its too involved for here. But our stuff has over 300 products - called Melaleuca - ever heard of tea tree oil? its from this tree - all natural, all biodegradable and enviornmentally friendly as well as economical. Allergic Living had one of its products in the first issue, I believe - called Sol-u-mel - kills molds, unlike Javex which just discolors them. This stuff is all available sent to your door. Great stuff.

I'm esp interested in what you sell as a shampoo?

Does anyone know if the SODIUM HYDROXYMETHYL GLYCINATE in Nature Clean products is derived from soy? Any other soy allergic folks using their dish soap? I'm waiting for a response from them as I just read that the chemical name for soy is Glycinate and then got a bit freaked out.
