Post subject:  Denture glue

My son who is only confirmed allergic to dogs, cats, and peanuts has been breaking out BAD everytime my mom comes over. She feels terrible! She has a long hair dog that doesn't seem to bother him and she doesn't eat nuts really...

We decided that it could be her new Denture cream......she started using regular Polygrip, I think. So, she switched back and came over and he was fine...It really seems like that was the cause. I didn't see ingredients on the package at WalMart - do you guys have any thoughts on what ingredient could be causing it. He would be red and welp-y, itchy everywhere she kissed him! :(

Wow, that was hard to find! According to GlaxoSmithKline,
Quote:

Ingredients:
PETROLATUM- (CAS RN) 8009-03-8, (Percentage) 42
CARBOXYMETHYLCELLULOSE- (CAS RN) 9000-11-7, (Percentage) 32
MINERAL OIL- (CAS RN) 8042-47-5, (Percentage) 12
NON-HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS- (CAS RN) Unassigned, (Percentage) 24

Is it just me or is that 110%?

Hahahahaha! We take DRUGS from people that can't ADD...that is fantastic, lol. Thank you, Susan - good detective work - I'd been searching for like an hour, too.

Those ingredients seem benign, but maybe something in the "nonhazardous" group? I guess I will have to call...

When in doubt, google MSDS 8)
Companies have to provide information in case of accidental exposure by workers.

Did you find out an ingredient that might have caused the reactions?

That is fortunate you figured it out!

No, I still haven't :-( I need to research the allergenicity of those first three items on the list..but I think the likelihood is that it is something in the "non-hazardous" materials category, where they don't list the actual ingredients because they aren't hazardous. :-( I'll keep you guys updated...

Okay...the carboxymethylcellulose seems to be fairly allergenic, and has caused anaphylactic reactions to IV corticosteroids and some other IV med that it is used in....

BUT...he only reacts with the regular glue, lol...My mom says that she just recently switched from the SUPER stuff to the regular when he started breaking out....one theory though is that she used excessive amounts when she used the regular glue...she said that this was true....we will see :-)
