My daughter has had chronic tonsilitis since before she was 2. Finally an ear, nose, throat dr has agreed to remove them. He said that for some children it leads to a drastic reduction in their allergies.

Has anyone heard of this? DOes anyone have experience of this? I dont want to get any hopes up if it isnt the case.

One of my children had tonsills and adenoids removed when he was younger. The reason was that he constantly had ear infections, which the ENT felt were caused by environmental allergies. When he had the tonsills and adenoids removed, he also had tubes put in both ears (again  ). That was the last time he needed tubes -- so either the surgery helped or he outgrew the infections.

I wonder if he meant a drastic reduction in their allergy symptoms? I could see that being the case... but not the allergies themselves.

My youngest had both his tonsils and adenoids removed a few years ago and we have seen no major change in allergy test results.
