I have been with my boyfriend for close to 6 years and in the last 4 or so I seem to have developed and allergic reaction to his kisses. I don't react when he kisses me on the lips but if he kisses me anywhere else on my face I will very quickly breakout in itchy hives and red welts that take some time to go away. There doesn't seem to be any link to any lotions etc because whether he uses any or not, whether he is clean shaven, has stubble or a full beard I react. It can't be a reaction to food because though I have a nut and peanut allergy we live together and eat the same things most days.

I find it a bit annoying that he can't even give me a peck on the check without me reacting but I know that it really bothers him. Who wants their girlfriend to be allergic to them? My family doctor just said that its weird and brushed it off. The allergist just said he thought it was sensitive skin and left it at that. I doubt this because even if he weren't to touch me with anything but his lips I would breakout.

Just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience or any insight? Thanks!

what is he eating when he's not at home? I was reacting when my husband ate Chinese food at work lunches, as well as when he was eating candy bars with peanuts in them.

Hmmmmm, :scratchy . Is he using a chapstick containing nut oils....although then you would think it would affect your lips the same as your face. ????

cp2011, you have a mystery here for sure. I wish you luck figuring it out. :huggy

Hm, I have no reaction when my boyfriend kisses me on the lips but if he kisses me on the face/forehead sometimes I get red and itchy or a couple of hives but I'm pretty sure it's my sensitive skin + his facial hair.

Here is an idea:
After he has been to the dentist and got a full teeth cleaning - and have the dentist clean his lips too! Then have BF kiss you on cheek and see what happens. Then, if you react, immediately go to a DIFFERENT allergy specialist and see if there is any possibility of hormonal hives. I'd fire your current allergy specialist regardless because this should not be taken quite so lightly.

(Sorry didn't respond sooner. My computer was acting up and only recently got fixed.)
