A new pub/bar/restaurant opened near my house and the management company that opened the restaurant is well-known throughout the city and has many other popular restaurants and bars. I checked the menu online and saw they had shrimp, some clams and scallops and I am shellfish allergic. I also noted the menu was rather extensive and there were plenty of other items that I could choose from.

Apparently this place is the type of place, where the all-female waitstaff wears itty bitty tank tops and skirts so short you can read lips. Regardless, I called and asked how they handle shellfish allergies and if they can accommodate me at their restaurant. The girl on the other end of the phone giggled and said "We don't have shellfish here. Just shrimp and Mahi Mahi".

I was so dismayed that I hung up without saying another word. :x :verymad . I have already drafted a letter of complaint to the owner of the management company and tomorrow I plan on speaking with the restaurant manager. After this experience, I don't plan on dining at any of the places owned by this management company. It's really sad how "stupid" people can be.

Thanks for listening to my rant!

Wow, I would hope all people with allergies would be leery of any establishment which answers such a serious question with a sarcastic giggle. The sad part is that the restaurant may in fact have great allergy policy but who will ever know if a customers' first line of communication is with someone who has obviously no training in the matter. She should have said she wasn't aware of the allergy policy but she'd be happy to get the manager.
