I recommend this restaurant for those with food allergies, if you are visiting Vancouver BC!

With some trepidation, I brought my teenaged daughter -- anaphylactic to all nuts -- to this restaurant called HABIT LOUNGE, 2610 Main Street, Vancouver B.C. It's a small newer neighbourhood restaurant in a hip area, not a place we go with kids. The menu is very eclectic and creative, so were a bit worried.

HOWEVER, I called ahead to alert them and feel them out, and they seemed very happy to accommodate us. When we arrived, the waitress asked if we were the party with an allergic member. She then clarified our allergy needs, and she checked with the chef and then advised us as to which foods would not contain or be cross-contaminated with nuts. There weren't a lot, maybe 4 items out of 12+ on their tapas style menu, but my daughter just ate those, and we made sure everyone didn't double-dip, and we had no problems.

Since it was our first experience in such a restaurant for my daughter, we were very pleased. I wrote a thank you e-mail to the restaurant afterward.

So, with some caution and pre-planning, one can eat out at some places other than Swiss Chalet, White Spot and MacDonalds! Thought I would applaud the restauranteurs who make the extra effort to keep their patrons safe!
