My two year old son has been recently diagnosed with a peanut allergy. Our allergist gave us lots of info at the time of diagnosis, including a peanut brochure put out by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Common sources of contamination are listed in this brochure under the headings "Food" and "Non Food Items". Under "Non Food Items" they have listed "the material that mushrooms are grown in". I have contacted several mushroom farms and packaging companies near Toronto, Canada and they all seem completely baffled by this comment. The farmers indicate that mushrooms are grown in peatmoss and that they are often covered by straw. My father wonders if perhaps some farmers use peanut straw. Has anyone ever heard of this issue before? I would greatly appreciate your input, sending thanks in advance.

I had this same concern when ourdaughter was diagnosed with tree nut allergies. I saw the same warning.
