i'd love to hear your opinion on this, camps started up at my work this week, and my supervisor advised me last night that one of the kids this week has a peanut allergy. i work in food and beverage and therefor will be serving the child his meal. so anyway, normally for breakfast i have toast with PB but this morning (i'll be working a little later) my mind crossed that off the list and i decided to have jam on my toast instead... so am i just being silly or would it be better to change up what i'm eating when i'm working the camp?
i know that i shouldn't eat anything with peanuts in it on shift so that nothing gets on my uniform but if i'm home in jammies, is just hand washing and teeth brushing enough?

somtiems its enough but you never know where it can get. Undernails, between teeth, in hair, on your neck and you don't notice. I am not sure I would take the chance knowing what I know.

Honestly, I think that is being over-cautious. But, if it were my child, I would love you forever for taking the extra step of not eating pb before going to that job.

well my thought on it is that this child's parents is trusting tat we will keep their child safe, and if that means i have to go without my pb toast, or my pb sandwhich at lunch well so be it, i'd rather be safe then sorry... like momofhalfadozen said i'd rather be safe the sorry with another person's child.

Ask yourself this question: "Should I put my own desires above that of the safety of a child?"

You are so wonderful to even think this! My daughter's friend is so allergic to peanuts that even the smell can cause a serious allergic reaction!

I also think you are wonderfully considerate to even think about this!

If it were my child and someone asked me this same question, I think I would be OK with the person eating PB in the morning before her shift and just making sure that hands and face are free of traces (soap and water), plus change clothing before going to work. Then as long as your hands don't go in your mouth, I think you are safe.

Thank you for being so wonderful & caring. If it were my son, I would probably say 'You don't *have* to do that, as long as you can make sure to wash your hands well etc.. but if you're ok with doing it for a week it would certainly be appreciated!'
