I've been having difficulty finding safe acidophilus supplements.

I called Danone regarding 'Activia' yogourt. They produce at least one flavour with nuts. They mentioned that their other flavours are made on the same line, and may contain traces of tree nuts.

However, the confirmed that there are no "may contain" statements on the ingredients list, nor is there such a statement on their website ingredient listing. Here are the ingredients listed for the 'Sweetened plain' flavour:

"Skim milk, concentrated skim milk, cream, sugar, fructose, whey protein concentrate, corn starch, gelatin, active bacterial cultures."

I asked Danone to relay a message to management regarding this omission.

Has anyone else here spoken with Danone about this?

As well, I've been in touch with companies that produce acidophilus supplements in pill form, and have been astonished at their lack of awareness of allergy issues.

I called the company again, but was given the run-around.

Has anyone managed to find a safe acidophilus supplement free of cross-contamination with other allergens?

Can't help you with the supplement issue. But I get all my good bacteria from Kefir--apparently it is even better for one's gut than yogurt. (And when I buy yogurt, I just buy plain . . . preferably the higher fat variety. Then I add cooked fruit / sweetener + spices.)

I highly recommend I am not sure of their status with your allergens, but the company is wonderful and very responsive. I am sure they would be helpful if you called them. But the product itself is very, very high-end and helpful.

I just sent an email to Activia (well Danone to be precise) regarding their cross contamination possibility.

I'm disappointed tro see this thread dates to 2007 and they still don't have a warning!

I use Natural Factors probiotic supplements, for both myself and my daughter. No problems!
