My BIL and his wife are flying in from halfway across the country and have rented a cottage for Thanksgiving. They adopted a little girl 2 years ago and she's 8 now.
SIL really wants to make the dinner. It has a lot to do with building memories for her daughter with my SIL's mom.
We settled on this:
I buy and cook the turkey, make the pumpkin pie and stuffing and supply her with all of the pantry ingredients for the dinner. She purchases the veggies and makes anything her heart desires. Everything will be safe for my kid (multiple allergies) and she gets to enjoy sharing the kitchen with her mother and daughter.
How are others managing the holiday dilemma?

That sounds like a great way to do it!

We are having our own dinner tonight with the big family one next weekend. For that one, we supply the appetizer and rolls. We checked that the stuffing and desserts will be prepared safely for our allergens. :huggy

We can no longer eat anything from Grandma because of her memory loss :(

I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving!

Yesterday's dinner was a success with everyone liking the pumpkin pie and ice cream! It is good for dd to know that she isn't missing out because of her allergies. It's good for others to know this, too.

Glad to hear that it was a success and everyone enjoyed themselves.

My DD has similar allergies to yours - she's allergic to dairy and eggs. Everything that we had for dinner was allergen free for her and delicious. Though of course, being 3 years old, she didn't eat half of it! :?

Great idea, Susan, and glad it turned out well! I usually make a few dishes for my kids that they like, my mom makes a few things they can eat, and they just don't eat the rest of it - they are picky so it's unlikely they will eat unfamiliar foods and it saves me the trouble asking a million questions of various relatives. We do ask for no actual nut/peanuts though.

I should add that dd takes food first before others, to avoid cross-contamination.
