Bad news for pet lovers/owners, but pretty good news for allergy sufferers!

They are actually being banned from being in the cargo hold of the planes in this case. CBC News was talking about it last night, and they interviewed a man whose dog died in an Air Canada plane, likely from carbon monoxide poisoning. :(

The man pursued Air Canada to make sure that they provided enough appropriate air space for pets in the cargo hold... Rather than doing that, it looks like Air Canada has chosen to just ban pets altogether.

I would suspect that seeing eye dogs would still be allowed in the passenger part of the plane, wouldn't they?

They are banning *pets*. Seeing eye-dogs are working dog. (As are dogs for hearing impaired, and some for autistic people.) So I'm sure they will be allowed.

Air Canada's new policy does not apply to guide dogs for the blind. Travellers who have already purchased tickets, or plan to buy tickets up until the policy takes effect on July 15, will be allowed to bring along their pets in the cargo hold.

The news is really just bad news for pet owners.

Thanks to the work of Dr. Stark and other allergists affiliated with the CSACI, Air Canada banned pets from the cabin in Sept. 2006 to accommodate those with asthma and severe pet allergies.
